We loved our stay here. We needed somewhere close by for a wedding in Julian, and this was not only the perfect location logistically, but the mountain views made for a beautiful and tranquil home base. The Rosewood Suite was comfortable and cozy, and well-stocked with coffee, towels and toiletries. The refrigerator was an added bonus as we brought leftovers home nearly every day. Self-check in was extremely easy and convenient. The cherry on top was I left a jacket in the room after checking out and the lodge mailed the jacket to me, clear across the country, for free. Would definitely stay here again if back in the area.

The location was conveniently close to Julian. The harmony room was comfortable. We enjoyed the remarkable views from the deck immensely. The feline friends were adorable. My only suggestion would be to have a wider selection of teas.

Beautiful place to stay while visiting Julian. Quiet rooms with beautiful views, lots of amenities. There is no staff at the location but are ready available when called. The hosts are very generous with snacks, teas, coffee, hot chocolate, and fireplace log,.. additional items also available at the shared kitchen at the self check-in office. Didn't give 5 stars for the room because of the tight door and loud bathroom fan. Kids loved their comfy beds but they were squeaky. My kids love this place and didn't want to leave; especially after couple days of playing and cuddling with the cute cats on the premise, they have already begged me to revisit soon.

I would love to give this a 5 star review across the board but I need to keep it real. I would definitely stay here again but there are a couple of shortcomings but they are certainly outweighed by the positives!!!

This place is beautiful and the views are stunning. There is a huge balcony area that has a ton of places to sit and relax. The house was clean as was my room. Just a warning if you are riding a Harley or other large bike - the driveway is paved, but very steep and almost a “switchback” to turn up it as you arrive. Could be daunting if you’re not an experienced rider!

So here’s the “real” part. I stayed in the bedroom above the pool table area (The Serenity Room). I went to bed early because I was leaving kind of early. People (a family I think) were downstairs playing pool until about 10. They weren’t being wild or disrespectful but it was more than obvious that they were right below me. I don’t recall seeing a “lights out” time for the pool table area. This COULD be a real problem if there were a group of party people staying who wanted to play pool into the wee hours. That being said, I don’t blame anyone for enjoying what’s provided!

The other thing was my bedroom floor. It was the squeakiest floor I have ever walked on. It probably didn’t bother anyone else at night, because it was the pool table below me, but I’m kind of neurotic about not being a bother to other people.

The positives of this place WAY outweigh the minor negatives I mentioned. If you want to go to a beautiful setting and “get away from it all” - this is the place!

We’ve been going to Julian for years,but our first time here. Great place. We loved the Rosewood room. Everyone staying seemed to feel the same way. Cozy and welcoming shared areas. Warm and friendly kitchen area if you want to prepare a meal.

With added service fees ($75), we overpaid for our room. There was NO fireplace, NO view out the window (see photo), and the air conditioner did not work. Every 2 minutes it would turn on, blow air for 30 seconds and quit, all night long. There were no extra blankets in the room, other than what was on the bed. ||There were 2 large dressers, a tiny table and 2 small wooden chairs, but NO "comfortable seating". With less furniture, the room could be arranged better and a comfy chair added. The floor was not clean and the curtains were frayed at the top (see photo). The bed was comfortable, but precariously high (see photo). My 6 ft. husband could barely sit on it with his feet on the floor and it was too close the windows, making it difficult to access that side of the bed. ||During the night, I could see a light leak, where the ceiling and wall met. The exhaust fan in the bathroom didn't work and it was the smallest toilet I've seen since grade school. A larger throne would fit, if they removed the added on bidet. ||We never saw any staff during check-in or check-out or in between. Pastries in the morning would have been nice, instead of the instant oatmeal and coffee that was offered. ||The best thing about the stay, were the sweet, adorable cats who greeted us when we arrived. The common room was inviting with an impressive rock wall fireplace. The drive was beautiful and the area was very quiet. It would be a great star gazing location, but unfortunately, it was overcast the night we were there (not the fault of the lodge!). ||This place has potential to be wonderful, but it needs much more TLC and thought by the owner. Maybe the other rooms were better than the one we got, but every room should be warm, clean and comfortable. I can't imagine returning to this lodge in the future. I think I would opt for a hotel in Borrego Springs, over Julian, if Borrego Springs is your destination.

Positive: Loved the easy/contactless check-in and check-out system. The room was very comfortable, clean, and charming. Common area kitchen, den, and patio deck were great. I wish we were there longer to use those amenities more. The cats were so friendly & cute! Negative: Motion detect light outside our unit went off throughout the night (cats playing triggered light). Issue was we had no way to cover the window immediately adjacent this light (no curtain), and the light shone onto the head of our bed waking us up often. Negative: ""

Very quaint lodge, loved the accessibility to everything in the common room. My boyfriend and I celebrated our anniversary and it was magical. If you don’t mind there being another family or couple sharing the common room, then it’s really lovely. Everyone was respectful and having our own space was terrific. I highly recommend. It’s also SUPER close to the town Julian so it’s so convenient to get food and such 🙂
