Just stayed there and had an amazing experience. Homemade breakfast every morning was fantastic, room was clean and neat, everyone even the owners were very nice and welcoming. Location was perfect as it was close to everything. Only downfall was very limited/tight parking but not sure how that could be improved. Will stay here again on our next Santa Barbara trip.

Don't bother, the hotel has beautiful images but the hotel overall does not match the quality of the images. The parking is a nightmare, you can see where people have crashed there car into the tight spaces. Also, it's off the main street, so it's LOUD. |I was locked out of my room both nights, the second night I had to wait 30 minutes outside my room for an employee to open the door. There is no attendant. It was 8PM, there is supposed to be an attendant until 10PM. There is no central A/C, it's a split unit on a wall and it wasn't warming the room. The fireplace does not work. The toilet handle in my room fell off and I had to lift the lid to flush the toilet. The windows are painted shut. The "Patio" is not private to your room, it's a shared patio, so don't bother "upgrading". The TV control was greasy, so the cleaning quality is poor. The door was covered in smear marks right below the door handle so it's not regularly cleaned, the towels looked dingy with stains. It's the little things that make the stay better and unfortunately, it was one thing after another. Do yourself a favor, go to another hotel. This hotel just doesn't cut it. There are so many beautiful options and closer to the water! This location is not ideal to walk anywhere either. I didn't feel safe here. Oh also! The lights kept turning off and on, the light in the bathroom and the bedside table lights, it creeped me out! I'm assuming the electrical needs work. I can't image what the cost is to stay here during peak season... don't bother.

We had a wonderful visit this last weekend! Lovely updated rooms with delicious made-to-order breakfasts each morning. We want to send a special shout out to Alexandra who made our stay here memorable. We will definitely be back! Jenny Johnson and Erik Racho

I cannot say enough about our wonderful stay. We were in suite 9 at the top of the hotel and we were thrilled to have a little outdoor terrace to view the mountains! Alexandra truly stands out as a professional and was a true delight in welcoming us at check in. She offered amazing recommendations for our stay and cooked up delicious breakfasts with her own recipes! I will remember her enthusiastic nature and our stay in Santa Barbara forever!

Scary Review for Hideaway Inn

My stay at Hideaway Inn was nothing short of a nightmare. From the moment I arrived, I knew I was in the wrong place. The first thing I noticed was the absolutely atrocious parking situation. The spaces are so narrow that getting out of the car felt like a game of Tetris—without the fun. If you’re lucky enough to find a spot, don’t even think about moving your car until check-out, because you’ll be playing musical chairs with the other guests.

As I made my way inside, I was greeted by an unwelcoming front desk staff who seemed completely uninterested in helping me, almost like I was an inconvenience. When I asked for advice on local attractions, I got a cold, dismissive response that left me feeling like I was bothering them just by being there.

The room itself was unsafe—the lighting was flickering in and out, making it feel like I was in a horror movie. And the noise—oh, the noise! It was so loud that I could hear every conversation from from the room next door AND from a very busy street that it’s facing and they forget to tell you when describing the location. It was impossible to sleep!

To top it all off, when I tried to raise my concerns to the manager, I was met with total indifference. The manager not only ignored my complaints, but she also backed up her staff’s mistakes without hesitation, even though they were clearly in the wrong. Alexandra promised to get back to me the same day, the next day at the latest, and ended up getting back to me 7 days later - she didn’t think it was “a big deal”. I’d expect at least some attempt to make things right, but no—just a lot of excuses and zero accountability or attempt to remedy the situation - she did offer “a free upgrade” on my next stay in any of the Kirkwood properties lol.

No matter how hard I tried to get my issues addressed, they were either ignored or brushed aside with a “We’ll look into it” and nothing ever changed. Don’t expect help or any real solutions here, and certainly don’t expect a peaceful, restful stay. This place feels more like a money-grab than a real hotel, and I will never be back. Avoid it at all costs unless you want to experience a real horror show.

My boyfriend and I just stayed here for one night and wish we could stay longer! It is adorable, friendliest staff and delicious homemade breakfast. I will never forget our experience here. I never write reviews but this one is special!

On the surface the hotel is very quaint and appealing. Most rooms are accessible only by stairs. Rooms are modern, bed was comfortable. Decent location. The cons: front desk staff hardly greeted you and did not provide any information on WiFi and basics without being asked. Bed sheets were full of sand and had to ask for clean linens to change. Not a big deal but fireplace did not work. Seems that if this is a selling point , it should be working. Draperies falling off the hooks making it seem they are not into the little details, especially for the price of these rooms. No coffee pot in the room. Refrigerator not working only to discover it has been unplugged. For $350 a night I would have expected much more. I would not recommend this hotel.

Hideaway is a fantastic stay and everything I want in a hotel. Greeted with cookies and champagne and great made to order breakfast every morning! This is more than a hotel. The rooms have been very nicely renovated with every detail in mind, down to perfect light temperature including dimmers! In a time when hotels seem to be removing amenities, Hideaway has all you could want and more. The location is super close to the best beach and the heart of downtown.
