What happened to this charming, magical place?

I don’t even know where to begin with the Santa Paula Inn. We have stayed here multiple times in the past and have always loved the comfy, charming atmosphere. That Santa Paula Inn no longer exists. This place somehow managed to go from a quaint squeaky clean little spot just steps away from Main Street that offered a huge breakfast and original and cozy aesthetics, to an outright filthy money pit. Our room was out right disgusting, there was dirt EVERYWHERE from the windows to the walls. We thought the windows were fogged up, no they were straight covered in filth. The corners of the room and electronics were covered in grime and there was standing water in our shower the entire time we stayed here. The full breakfast, a mainstay staple every time we visited in the past, has been replaced with a coffee pot with dry creamer and Splenda packets, and there is no one ever managing the office.
What happened to this charming, magical place? What happened to the friendly owners who took pride in providing great hospitality and service, roaming the halls asking how your stay went or what you thought of the breakfast, if you needed anything for your room or stay? It doesn’t’ exist anymore, it’s been replaced with cheaper thrift store aesthetics and owners that do not want to be seen or interacted with, and surely do not want to help.
This place has turned into a HUGE disappointment and can’t imagine it will last much longer. A bustling fun loving stay that was always packed was quiet, empty, and filthy. And that’s just what we CAN see I can only imagine how much worse it actually is. Not worth your time or money.

Ana, who was the room service lady was beyond nice to us and always checked up on us to make sure we were all set. It’s right next to the main street which is a super cute walk, the rooms were massive which was perfect for us because we were staying for the week and needed space for our stuff, the owner was also really nice to us. Overall very pleased with our stay.

The Santa Paula Inn was a pleasant little discovery. While it lacks a swimming pool, it is a great place to stay if you like early 20th century architecture. Despite its age, however, the Inn has modern, sanitary upgrades like smooth, wood-look tile floors and nice showers. The owner was also friendly and professional, and the Inn is within walking distance of Main Street and the excellent Rabelais restaurant. Well-priced at around $120 a night.

The Santa Paula Inn is in a great location. Just steps to its downtown area with many restaurants. The Inn has plenty of parking in the back. Best thing about the place was the innkeeper. He was very personable and helpful with advice on restaurants and attractions. The hotel was a bit dated, but definitely worth the stay.

A cute little hotel in downtown Santa Paula.
The receptionist was so nice and attentive when we checked in.
Rooms were clean and they’re so big! We were especially surprised at the size of the restroom, we felt so small!
There’s a cute little patio on the back and good enough parking for all guests.

Everything was perfect except one thing. There wasn't anybody there dealing with the other patrons who were making noise up to 2:30 in the morning. Unfortunately we didn't sleep for 1 night and they didn't offer to reimburse for the night. I had to call twice to reach somebody but in the end, someone did come by and tell the others to be quiet. It's a great spot but I won't stay there again unless they fix that issue.

Pros: The price is reasonable, the location is right next to restaurants and a downtown area, the room was clean.

Cons: the walls are PAPER THIN. Without exaggeration we could hear entire conversations from outside and other rooms. There was also no one manning the front desk at all so it felt like anyone could walk in off the street. While the rooms seem to have been updated recently (wood floor and no carpet on our first floor room), it still felt very old. You could see the light coming in from outside through the cracks around the tv and the bathroom door handle had to be jiggled to work properly.

Overall the quality for the price you pay was very good and the little interaction we had with the staff was friendly. If you’re a heavy sleeper then this is a good option on a budget.

The room was a bit small, but everthing else was great. Front desk service was very good. Got to check in early with no issues and the best part was apparently there was some fixing going on room right next to mine at 7 PM ish and it went on for awhile (noisy) so I called the front desk and they took care of it right away and I thought that was great service because they could have easily said I'm sorry we have to fix this issue right now. Fridge worked great, ceiling fan was a nice touch.
