The place is lovely!!!! The owner is lovely!!|The rooms are fabulously decorated. The beds are the most comfortable. The breakfasts are wonderful |Just minutes from downtown Mt Dora |We chose this time of year to enjoy the Christmas Festivities and we were thrilled with the entire experience |Only thing to know - there are no elevators and we were on the 3rd floor so pack lightly?. But so worth the trip up and down the stairs!

We had a fabulous 2 night stay during Hurricane Helene. Due to the weather we were unable to use the pool and hot tub. Hosts Margie and Melissa are wonderful, breakfast was superb. There was an easy walking path to the charming town of Mount Dora.

My daughter, mother and I just spent a lovely weekend at Heron Cay Bed and Breakfast. We were there to visit my niece and her family in nearby Umatilla. Lucky for us the Heavenly room was available for me and my daughter. It was a beautiful, spacious room with a king-sized bed, fireplace (which we didn't use), and jacuzzi tub. My mother stayed in the Highwaymen Sunsets room (named for all of the Highway Men paintings throughout the B&B), which was smaller than our room, but perfect for my mom.
Our hosts, Margie (the owner), Melissa (her daughter) and Jacob (Melissa's son) were super hospitable. Jacob even helped us take our bags up/down the stairs. Margie & Melissa went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed.
Breakfast was beyond delicious - 2 egg dishes (1 vegetarian, 1 not) were made in a not quite poached/not quite fried way that I'm still figuring out. Homemade banana bread, bread pudding, sausage and a fruit plate that included pineapple grown on the B&B's beautiful grounds. Fresh squeezed OJ, coffee, tea, hot cocoa.
I wish we'd gotten to enjoy the grounds and pool while we were there, but a tropical storm prevented that. For the bit, I was able to get out, I was able to see a tropical paradise with a huge variety of trees, flowers, ginger plants, vines, and of course pineapple. Margie and Missy must have bright green thumbs:-)
Other notes - downtown Mt. Dora is a short walk along the property's wooded path. But if you prefer not to walk, there is a golf cart shuttle service that will pick you up at the B&B, take you into town, and then take you back when you're done. We used it the first night to go to dinner and it worked out perfectly. Ask the innkeeper for more info, as I can't remember the name of ther service or driver.
In spite of the tropical storm that kept our trip pretty wet, we really enjoyed our time at Heron Cay. I plan to return with my husband for one of the festival weekends and will stay here with him.

Wonderful B&B, host is also a great person to chat with, we enjoyed our stay, but for 2 things. Minimal hot water in the shower and construction early Monday morning (our day of departure) Great location, quick stroll to downtown, delicious breakfast, and clean!

B&B was a gorgeous house. Margie was a great host and breakfast were very delicious both mornings. Location is excellent and very close to downtown area, The only complaint we had was we stayed in a room that we had to use the sofa bed and it was extremely uncomfortable,, lumpy and it caved in the middle. We did not get a rested sleep. Our suggestion would be to put a memory foam topper on the sofa bed when it has to be used and a memory foam topper would probably be helpful on the normal bed also. We did enjoy our stay,

The house is so charming and the vibe is pure kindness. Mrs Margie is super sweet and everyone there helping her is as wonderful. We loved Mrs Jody’s sense of humor! The two puppies are just a dream and the property is so clean and well maintain. Breakfast was delicious! If we go back we will stay at Heron Cay again.

Amazing overnight stay-cation for me and my teenage daughter to escape the hustle and bustle of Orlando. The room we first picked was quaint and pristine, but the queen bed was a bit to small for both of us to share (my error in judgment). Margie the host was so kind and gracious to let us change rooms since it was not too busy, and even refunded me the difference!

The common areas were ornately decorated in Victorian style, and we enjoyed being able to roam about the sitting and dining rooms. The pool was beautiful and clean, and was a tranquil, tropical oasis.

We had a wonderful, peaceful night’s sleep, as the beds were comfy and the estate was so quiet, even though set off from a busy road. The only thing to note is that the trees and vegetation is now overgrown so you can’t see the lake from the rooms. Still amazing views nonetheless.

In the morning we had a wonderful breakfast with fruit, nut bread, gourmet scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, coffee, and tea in the quaint and beautiful dining room.

Start to finish, staying at Heron Cay was a wonderful little getaway. Look forward to returning…worth every penny; highly recommend.
